Crosslake Outdoor Music Series Lineup Announced!

As the title says, the band line up for the 2014 Crosslake Outdoor Music Series has been announced. The concerts are free, and they take place at the Crosslake Town Square starting June 21st. All of the bands start at 7:00 except for the last event of the year, on Labor Day Weekend, which starts at 6:30. This is a great time to be had by all in Crosslake, so bring your lawn chair, support merchants of Town Square, and enjoy some of the finest summer entertainment in the state of Minnesota. We won't tell you who or what band they're in, but one of our own is a member of one of these bands. (we might let you know who that is in a later post...stay tuned)

Memorial Day ~ Official Kick off to Summer!

As we get ready for Memorial Day weekend here in the lake country, we are preparing for the official beginning of summer. Very soon, our little towns will be busting at the seams with our summer residents, and the agents at RE/MAX Lakes Area Realty had a big hand in helping those summer residents buy their dream home on the lake. Businesses are getting ready for our summer friends, and will welcome them with open arms as old friends reunite. It’s amazing for those of us that live here year round to watch the transformation every year.

But Memorial Day is much, much more. Memorial Day is a US federal holiday wherein the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces are remembered. The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the final Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service. There are many Memorial Day services around the state, and they are particularly popular and well attended in our local communities. For a list of Memorial Day services you could attend, here are the links:
·         Nisswa
·         Crosslake
·         Longville
·         Alexandria

If you have time, please visit one of these moving events. We owe our freedom to those men and woman who put their lives on the line for our way of life. To those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, we can only say you will forever be remembered in our hearts. And to those who are protecting our country today, “thank you” just doesn't seem to be enough, but we are very thankful you are serving our country. The United States of America is a country worth fighting and dying for. The brave men and women of the armed forces understand that every time they look in the mirror as they proudly put on their uniform. The rest of us are so thankful there are people like you.

So as you’re throwing a burger on the grill, or getting up on your water skis for the first time, or sinking that first putt, or catching your first fish, remember those for whom Memorial Day is in remembrance of. We owe so much to all of you.

Fishing Leagues

There are several fishing leagues in the area, and given that the fishing opener was last weekend, most of them have their first events this week. There are leagues of all shapes and sizes, with some just fishing for Bass, some just Walleye, and some just Northern Pike or Muskies. Then there are the multi-species leagues that fish for all of the above and more. Even though these leagues are a competition among the participants, the real reason these leagues exist, is to build friendships while enjoying our beautiful Minnesota lakes.

I happen to be in a league called "Fish It, Live It", and our first event is tonight on Pelican Lake. We are a two person per boat, multi-species league that encourages catch and release, sharing of information, and having fun. The group of guys I fish with use every other Thursday night as an excuse to get out on the water. If it wasn't for the ten events this league holds every year, most of us would just sit home on a Thursday night, and miss out on a wonderful night of trying to catch the fish of a lifetime, while securing bragging rights as the best team of the night.

So, if you're in a league, good luck. If you're not, get out on the water anyway. Your time on earth is short, and you need to fish your butt off every chance your get!

What's Going on in Longville!?!

We just opened the Season with the 17th Annual Run, Walk, Ride Around Woman Lake. The weather was great and we had a wonderful turnout. 30kers, 5 milers/walk and run bike riders. Next is Opening Fishing...everyone will be putting docks in and opening cabins. Longville will be hopping! The Lions will soon be serving up their famous McLions hamburgers on Saturday, May 24th in the Docksider parking lot, and then it's time for the world famous Turtle Races to start up on June 4th. We literally can have 1,000 folks in the streets of Longville as the Turtle Races continue each Wednesday throughout the summer. We’ll have 300 racers and 3 or more family members with each one!! It's like a mini state fair...indeed. Lots more events coming up after that…keep it posted right here.

Owning a Lake Home

If you own a lake home then you know what it feels like to come home after work and watch your docks go in the water. After a long winter (especially this year) it is a feeling of “FINALLY ~ I believe summer is on its way!!" The Loons are singing and of course the geese are looking to land on somebody's lawn. Just a few of the reasons we love living in the lakes area. Haven't you waited long enough to have your dream? Come…dream with your eyes open

ICE...Gone, Gone Baby!

While we have been cloudy and rainy for the last week in the Brainerd Lakes Area, the good news is that all of the ice is off the Whitefish Chain, the Gull Chan, and all other area lakes. So let the warm weather prevail, put in your docks and boats, and let’s all have a marvelous spring, summer and fall. And If you are buying or selling please be sure to contact us at RE/MAX Lakes Area Realty.
