Longville Lions Corn Feed~Longville Fly-In Breakfast~Longville Turtle Races

Longville News, August 2014

Everyone asks it…how Longville, Minnesota, a town this small can put on sooooo many events!!! It is true….during the Season there is something going on every week…besides the incredible Turtle Races…for which we are renowned.

So, this week, Saturday, the Lions will have their annual Corn Feed with polish….We will probably serve about 300 loyal Longville natives and visitors. Our Lions wagon sits in the parking lot of the Docksider, the municipal watering hole…that has a brand new outside deck…complete with umbrella tables…for dining!! So, Lions patrons will get their meal, providing funds to be given back to the local community…and stroll to the deck where they can relax and enjoy the view of the city docks and folks boating into town! So picturesque…

Sunday, the Longville Chamber, along with a committed supply of local volunteers and the Airport Flyers, folks who own hangers and have planes at the airport, will put on a pancake breakfast and serve 1200 customers with an endless supply of pancakes, sausages, juice and coffee!!!  The breakfast is held in one of the hangers and it feels like a “barn raising” of old…a huge outpouring of the community all coming together. The volunteer fire department, a beneficiary of the event, will have their “rigs” there for everyone to climb on and check out. Our ambulance service will be there to meet and greet.  Two young local musicians…with tremendous voices and guitar playing ability, will be there to entertain. There will be a display of classic cars and a train exhibit. Planes will be flying in from around the area and plane rides are offered.

And, of course, Wednesday the Turtles will be running. We have had about 350 entrees each week, so along with the 2-3 plus folks who accompany each entrant…that means we will host about 1000 folks on Main Street. And, they will have a ball!!!

Late last week, we mentioned we're going to be featuring our agents doing some of their favorite things in the lakes area, so we had a little contest asking them to submit a short video of them doing just that. We had a lot of great entries, and we'd like to thank all of those who sent in a video! Over the next several days, we're going to be featuring the videos that were submitted. But FIRST, we are going to congratulate Mark Pietig, a Realtor in our Nisswa office, for being our big winner. He submitted a great video, so congratulations Mark! Check out his favorite thing to do in the lakes area, and turn up your speakers!

New Partner Joins Copper Search Along Carlton-Aitkin County Line

It may be a bit out of ordinary for this blog, but a client of one of our agents [Bill Rickmeyer] sent an article to him from the Duluth News Tribune, regarding a copper mine near Tamarack, MN. Tamarack is a small town of 94 residents located on Highway 210 about 10 miles east of McGregor, MN. Viewed controversial by some and just the opposite by others, if this mine comes to fruition, it could provide jobs and opportunities for a region that would benefit greatly from it. If you'd like to read the article regarding this proposed copper mine, click HERE.

On the main stage, you will have the opportunity to hear one of the all time great live performance bands when REO Speedwagon takes the stage at 11:00 PM. Keven Cronin and his band mates put on a great show that is high energy and non stop fun. I've seen this band several times, and I can't think of a better group to close out a great weekend of music. They are always a crowd favorite, so if you haven't seen these guys and you love music, you need to get out there and experience the experience. Here is the complete main stage lineup for Saturday night:

And in traditional Moondance Jam tradition, we'll see you at the Jam in 2015! BUT...you don't have to wait until next year to talk to a real estate professional at RE/MAX Lakes Area Realty. Visit our website or call us at 218-963-9554. Don't let another great summer of fun slip away!

Moondance Jam 2014

Moondance Jam week is upon us! This music and camping festival that started out 23 years ago with local bands, has grown into one of the most respected and well run big name rock and roll festivals in the world. Crowds from all corners of the earth make the trek to Walker every year and have a great time listening to some of the biggest names in the music business.

It all starts with a pre-jam party on Wednesday starting at 6 PM with Urban Myth on the Saloon Stage. On the main stage Mountain Ash kicks things off at 7:30 followed by the Fabulous Armadillos at 9:00 and Hairball at 10:45. This if from the Moondance Jam website: Hairball is a Rock & Roll experience you won't soon forget. A band puts on a concert-Hairball puts on an event! The lights, sound, smoke, fire, bombs, and screaming hoards of avid fans...to merely call it a concert would be like calling Mount Rushmore a roadside attraction! I’ve seen both Hairball and Mount Rushmore, and I’d say that pretty much sums things up nicely.

It’s hard to explain the spell Moondance Jam puts people under. It’s just one of those things that if you’ve been there before, you just have to keep coming back, and if you haven’t been there, it needs to be on your bucket list. You don’t just experience Moondance, you live it. The sights, the sounds, the food…everything plays into making this a true American, red, white and blue campin’ and jammin’ event of the summer. If you don’t believe me, read the reviews and the history of this event by clicking HERE.

So, all we’ve done is cover Wednesday night, and the party is just getting started. Check back here tomorrow for more information about the bands this weekend…it’s a great lineup you won’t want to miss.

Speaking of great lineups, major league baseball has their own all-stars playing at Target Field tomorrow night, and RE/MAX Lakes Area Realty has an all-star cast of agents just waiting to help you in any way they can. Find them on our website, or follow us on Facebook, Twitter or PinterestRE/MAX Lakes Area Realty is the only team you’ll ever need to call when buying or selling real estate.

Lakes Area Latest

Lakes Area Latest...what a great name for a blog, and it was named by one of our agents, Sean McDonald in Longville. When we started writing this, three short months ago, we set out to bring you, the reader, information we thought you'd like to know. Armed with this information, we hoped you would be able to plan your week or weekend ahead, by getting a sense of what is happening in Brainerd, Nisswa, Crosslake, Longville or Alexandria, because there is always something going on that would interest a wide variety of people. We also hoped that you would share this blog and the information in it with your friends and neighbors. Some of you are doing just that, but it would be nice if a LOT more people would do so, so please ask everyone that is interested in knowing what they can do this weekend, to read this past Wednesday's post. Or better yet, Tweet it, or share it on Facebook or Pinterest, or just plain email it to your friends or even clients.

If you are a regular reader of someone's blog, you already know that you can make comments after every post. We would LOVE to see comments and especially suggestions on what else you'd like to know about, or if we missed something that is going on this weekend, put that in the comment section as well for everyone to see. Blogs are a great way to communicate to the masses by only having to write something once, so let everyone know of this best kept secret of a blog that will keep you up to date on the great things you can do this week, and the next, and the week after that, etc, etc, etc.

A Good Time Was Had by All!

Last week was truly the official, unofficial, kick off to summer. All of us should be glad to see June in the rearview mirror. I don't have to tell you how wet June was, here in our great state, but animals were pairing up and many of us made sure our boats were seaworthy.

The 4th of July is really kinda sort of our official summer kick off. Lots of our friends from last summer come and make the lakes area their home for the next couple of months. It takes longer to get places, but on the plus side, those of us that live here all year, get to experience things we don't get to experience in those months when the traffic isn't quite as heavy. We get to shop in places we don't get to shop at in the winter, we get to sit outside and eat, and we get to visit with friends who consider themselves "snowbirds".

Fireworks were everywhere, and they stole the show this past week. Thousands of people enjoyed the vast variety offered up by our various towns and resorts. I would guess that if you spent any time in the Brainerd or Alexandria Lakes Area, you didn't have to drive or boat very far to see a spectacular display in celebration of our country's 238th birthday. I'd sum it up this way...last week was a blast!

At RE/MAX Lakes Area Realty, we have agents that are ready, willing, and able to help you find a perfect spot to see the fireworks next year. And for those of you wanting to sell, our agents have buyers that are looking for your special place in the north country. So please give one of our agents a call. In Nisswa call 218-963-9554. In Alexandria call 320-762-5544. In Longville call 218-363-3332. In Crosslake call 218-692-9938. OR you can contact one of them by going to our website at www.lakesrealty.com. You're just a click or phone call away from having the time of your life!
