Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is a time we can be thankful and appreciate the men and women who fought and those that are currently fighting for our country.

Are you going to be in the Lakes Area this weekend?  Memorial Day Weekend is the kick off to the summer season and there are a ton of things going on around here.

In Alexandria they have the 10th Annual Pancake Breakfast
In Nisswa on Saturday (23rd), they are having a Spring Bake Sale and Silent Auction
Head over to Crosslake for a Vendor Fair at The Crossfire.
Check out the Longville Lions selling burgers and another Bake Sale
Check out this site, Memorial Day Fun for EVEN MORE fun things to do this weekend in the Lakes Area

Maybe, you are coming up here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  The weather will be perfect for fishing, boating, lounging by the lake, and enjoying the lake life!

RE/MAX Lakes Area Realty LOVES MOMS!

They really are the best!  Even as an adult she is the first
person you think of when your sick.  She is the first one you want to go to when you are sad.  She is the first person you want to tell when something great happens (like buying your first home). She has been there to support you and encourage you so make sure this mothers day you show her how much you care and appreciate all she does!

There is always the classic flowers and chocolates...this year buy her a plant. Something she will be able to see everyday and enjoy for a long long time.  You can get some extra points by offering to come over and help her plant it in the yard!

For some great ideas check out our Pinterest Board - Landscaping and Curb Appeal. There you will find some great flowers that are beautiful and will surely brighten up her day. Maybe your mother does not have a green thumb, and she needs something more "set it and forget it" you can find some very hardy options as well.
Tell us what you love about your mom on Twitter. @REMAXLAR #LoveMyMom

Fishing Opener

It's time for fishing opener!  Here in the Lakes Area we have hundreds of lakes to choose from! There are thousands of fishermen and women getting their boats ready, stocking up on bait, and snacks, and heading up north to their favorite lakes. If you don't already have a cabin on your favorite lake or maybe you are ready to retire on your favorite fishing lake, we can help!

Once you catch your limit of Walleye you are going to need the perfect recipe to cook it for the family.  I found this one on Allrecipes.com and we have been using it in our house for years.

Ingredients:
Walleye (fresh caught,of course)

2 Eggs, beaten
1/2 cup of all purpose flour
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 pinch of salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
2 cups crushed saltine crackers
Vegetable oil for frying
1 lemon, cut into wedges

Directions:
  1. Check the fillets to ensure all bones and skin have been removed. Cut the fillets into manageable pieces, if necessary.
  2. Place the beaten eggs a bowl and set aside. Combine the flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in another bowl. Pour the cracker crumbs into a third bowl.
  3. Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  4. Dip the fillets into the flour mixture, then the eggs, and then the cracker crumbs and set fillets aside on a plate. Test the oil: it will crackle and pop when a cracker crumb is dropped into it. Carefully lower 2 fillets into the hot oil. Cook until browned, about 3 minutes per side, using tongs to turn the fillets. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and repeat with remaining fillets. Serve with fresh lemon wedge

If you are looking for a recipe that is not the standard fried fish, check out our Pinterest Board - Walleye Recipes.
The weather up here looks pretty good, as Minnesotans we can always find something about the weather to complain about but we will also fish in just about any weather...
