Ice Conditions In the Lakes Area

The cold weather has finally set in around the lakes area! A late start to ice fishing and snowmobiling is better then no start at all. With the cold weather that has embraced our area the ice conditions are finally improving and anglers are eager to get their houses and vehicles out on the lakes. Are you wondering when you can get out and enjoy the frozen lakes? The MN DNR has some suggested guidelines for ice thickness and safety:
2" or less - STAY OFF
4" - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5" - Snowmobile or ATV
8" - 12" - Car or small pickup
12" - 15" - Medium truck
*these are just guidelines and not a guarantee, each lake freezes differently and should be checked before driving on the lake if you are unsure*
